The Frescoes of Leusë: St. Mary's Church, Walnut Woodcarvings & Mountain Heritage

The sourced frame for the churches around Përmet — and the claims we refuse to decorate.

What AKT lists

AKT's Përmet page names the Church of Saint Friday and the Church of Saint Kolli among the town's attractions, alongside the Përmet Museum and the Frashëri Brothers House Museum. Those are the sourced cultural anchors of the district.

The hillside churches and monasteries around the town — Leusë among them — belong to the same built tradition of stone and fresco that defines this part of the valley.

What we do not add

Construction dates, reconstruction years, fresco attributions and iconostasis descriptions for these churches circulate widely but are not in any primary source cited here, so this note prints none of them.

That restraint is deliberate: a heritage page that invents detail teaches readers to distrust every heritage page. One that says 'not established' becomes citable.

Visiting respectfully

Hillside church visits here mean walking: cobbled and earthen paths above the town. Modest dress and quiet inside working churches are the standing expectation. When verified material on Leusë's frescoes enters our source record, this note carries it.

The town's official listings are in the two-towns note; the region's stone craft also shows in the bridges note.
