Këlcyrë

Këlcyrë sits in a strategic position between the Trebeshinë and Nemërçkë mountains, near the Vjosa. Its name comes from 'Klisura', meaning 'narrow canyon'.

The Albanian National Tourism Agency (AKT) lists Këlcyra Castle as an ancient fortification, alongside the Këlcyra Gorge, the Black Water (Uji i Zi) natural spring, a World War II military cemetery, the Old Village of Këlcyra, Dhembel mountain, the Këlcyra Saray, the Vjosa Wild River National Park and Albanik Farm as an agrotourism listing.

The agency is precise about what it does not say: no construction century is attached to the castle, no dimensions to the gorge. We keep that precision.

Përmet, the City of Roses

Përmet lies in the Vjosa valley, bordered by the Dangëlli and Trebeshinë ranges, far from large urban centres. It is officially called 'The City of Roses' — that is the extent of the official record about the name, and we do not add an origin story.

AKT names the Bënja thermal springs, the Langarica canyon, the City Stone (Guri i Qytetit), the Ottoman-period Kadiu Bridge, the Përmet Museum, two churches, and the Frashëri Brothers House Museum among the town's attractions.

The same page lists regional specialities: reshedi cake, 'drudhe' (breaded chicken) and gliko of Përmet, a whole-fruit compote that carries its own Slow Food Presidium — a product designation, not a town-wide one.

The thermal waters at Bënjë, accurately

The Bënja thermal area lies along the Lengarica river at the entrance to the Langarica canyon, near an old Ottoman-period stone bridge. AKT describes the water as rich in minerals while publishing no mineral analysis, and traditionally known for curative properties, especially rheumatic, skin and musculoskeletal complaints.

That last sentence is traditional knowledge, not a medical claim, and nothing on this site recommends the waters for any condition.

A sellable visit still requires verification of current public access, seasonal conditions and group suitability — none of which is published officially today.

Where to read on

Community context for both towns lives at kelcyre.org and permet.org, community websites that complement AKT's official destination listings rather than repeat them.
